WHAT IS CHUTNEY?

Chutney is a condiment that is popular in Indian cuisine, but it has also become widely used in other parts of the world. Chutney is made from a combination of fruits, vegetables, sugar, vinegar, and spices and is used to add flavor to a variety of dishes. Here are some common uses for chutney:

  1. Sandwich spreads: Chutney can be used as a spread for sandwiches, giving them a sweet and tangy flavor.
  2. Dip for appetizers: Chutney can be served as a dip for appetizers like samosas, pakoras, or other fried snacks.
  3. Meat marinades: Chutney can be used as a marinade for meats, poultry, or seafood, adding flavor and moisture to the dish.
  4. Sauce for rice dishes: Chutney can be used as a sauce for rice dishes like biryani or pulao, adding flavor and color to the dish.
  5. A flavoring for curry dishes: adding a little bit of chutney goes a long way in curry dishes lending subtle hints of spice and sweetness. An example would be the delicious curried dish – bobotie from South Africa. Any regular curry can use some chutney for some flavor lift!
  6. Topping for cheese platters: Chutney can be served as a topping for cheese platters, adding a sweet and tangy flavor to the cheese.
  7. Accompaniment for Indian breads: Chutney is commonly served as an accompaniment for Indian breads like naan or roti, adding flavor to the bread.
  8. Sauce for meats: Chutney can be used as a sauce for meats like pork, chicken, or beef, adding flavor to the dish.

In conclusion, chutney is a versatile condiment that can be used in a variety of ways to add flavor to dishes. Whether you’re using it as a sandwich spread, dip, marinade, or sauce, chutney is sure to add a delicious and unique flavor to your meal.

Mango chutney as a type of chutney is made from mangoes, sugar, and spices. It can be made hot (spicy!) or mild. It has a sweet and tangy flavor that pairs perfectly with cream cheese, creating a creamy and delicious cheese ball. To make this appetizer even more irresistible, the cheese ball is rolled in crushed pecans, giving it a crunchy exterior and adding a nutty flavor.

This cheese ball is a cinch to make and can be prepared in advance, making it the perfect dish for busy hosts and hostesses. Simply mix cream cheese, mango chutney, and seasonings together, form into a ball, and roll in crushed pecans. It’s that easy!

CAN YOU USE OTHER CHUTNEY APART FROM MANGO?

Yes. You don’t need to be limited to just mango chutney. Since all chutneys have pretty much the same components and the same sweet and spicy elements – any fruit chutney should work. I would recommend if you’re able to get it – Mrs. Balls Chutney from South Africa – it’s the best in my opinion.

WHAT DO YOU SERVE WITH THIS MANGO CHUTNEY CHEESE BALL?

The mango chutney cheese ball is typically served as an appetizer, and there are a variety of items that can be served with it. Here are some popular options:

  1. Crackers: Serve the cheese ball with a variety of crackers, such as water crackers, wheat crackers, or multi-grain crackers, for dipping.

    Another app version:
Pour a jar of mango chutney over a block of cream cheese. Top with coconut, then chopped peanuts and chopped green onions. Serve with buttery crackers. Soooo tasty! The leftovers(if there are any) can be combined into a ball and served again.

    1. Asian section of the local grocery stores should carry that or in the condiment/sauce section possibly. If you can’t find it simply ask your grocer to point you to the right aisle. Hope you find it. Amazon is always a good source, too.
